Spoken Language

Spoken Language

We strive to provide the children of Saltaire Primary School rich and varied opportunities within a dialogic learning environment where they are able to develop and flourish by using spoken language. We want children to become confident and enthusiastic learners with positive attitudes towards their learning. We want our children to have positive attitudes towards communication and for them to be able to independently express their thoughts and ideas. We feel that by giving children a context to develop these skills they can continue to enhance their spoken language skills as they progress and move on to the next stage of their learning. This is why spoken language is at the heart of all learning.

At the end of our children’s Saltaire Primary School Learning journey they should all be able: to debate with others respectfully; to speak with confidence to an audience-choosing the correct formality where necessary; use interesting and varied vocabulary and will be able to critically engage with their own and others’ spoken language.
