14th June 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

We’ve had such a good week at Saltaire Primary School, despite all of the rain. Year 3 gave us a fantastic assembly this morning, telling us all about Pompeii, Mount Vesuvius, volcanoes and a variety of rocks. It was fantastic.

Our New Houses

This term, we have introduced a new house system which we a trialling with the children. Each child has been assigned a house according to our Champion Learning behaviours of Concentrate, Cooperate, Create and Challenge. Each house also has a colour assigned to it. The children have been very positive about the new approach so it is likely we will launch the system officially in the new academic year.

50 things to do before you’re 5 launch

On Thursday this week, we held a special event to launch the 50 Things app at Saltaire Primary School. Some of our parents have already been using the app and we wanted to share some of the experiences it suggests with our community. The app provides lots of ideas of things to do with children both at home and when you are out and about. The great thing is that most of the activities are free and they are great to do with children of all ages. If you would like to find out more you can visit the website here: https://bradford.50thingstodo.org/app/os#!50thingstodobefore5/whats-it-all-about. Many thanks to Mrs Abbott, Mrs Austwick, Mrs Patterson and Mrs Noble for organising such a special event.

Parent Forums

Following feedback we have decided that future parent forums will not have set topics but will be an opportunity for parents to raise subjects according to your interests and ideas. Our next forums will take place on Monday 24th June at 9:00am and Wednesday 26th June at 2:40pm. If you have anything you would particularly like to talk about, please feel free to send an email to office@saltaire.bradford.sch.uk. Otherwise do come along and we’ll be happy to add items to the agenda on the day, time permitting.

Meet the Teacher

Wednesday 3rd July is transition day in school, where your child gets to spend the day with their new teacher. This year we will also be holding Meet the Teacher sessions on this day where the will be a short presentation from your child’s new teachers about the year ahead. You’ll then have an opportunity to look around the new classroom and have a chat with the teacher. Sessions will begin at 3:30pm in each year group with a follow up session at 4:00pm. Please note that there probably won’t be time at this session for a detailed chat about your child. If you would like a more detailed conversation with your new teacher at any time, please make an appointment via the school office.

I will be writing to you next week about which teacher your child will have.

Baby Congratulations

Many congratulations to two members of staff at school who have recently welcomed new additions to their families. Mr Feather’s wife had a little girl a couple of weeks ago and Mrs Winter gave birth to a baby girl last week. Both babies are doing well and parents all round are delighted. Wishing you all the very best from all at Saltaire Primary School.

Supervision of children after school

Please can I remind all parents that if you remain on site with your child at the end of the school day to ensure they are safe at all times. Children should be closely supervised at all times when using the school site after 3:20pm.

I  hope you have a great weekend. Let’s hope the sun comes out so we can all get out in the great outdoors.

Mr Whitehead
