July 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

What an amazing summer term it has been, filled with excitement and fantastic learning.

Today is the last day of the academic year at Saltaire Primary School. We will reopen on Wednesday 4th September. There will be two training days on the 2nd and 3rd September.

Goodbye to Year 6

Last night, our Year 6 children gave the performance of a lifetime. Their Queen inspired concert was so uplifting and showed what a great learning journey the children have had. They sang, danced, made the audience laugh with confidence and amazing talent.

It has been such a pleasure to watch these children grow up over the last seven years. I can remember their first days in Reception as if it was only a few weeks ago...and yet here we are, waving them off to secondary school. I am so proud of all their achievements here and look forward to hearing about the bright futures which are ahead for them.

September school day timings

We will be making some minor changes to the school day from September. The actual times will not change however, the doors will open at 8:50am each morning. Teachers will be based in the classrooms at this time and senior leaders will be posted on the doors to make sure the children enter safely. The school day will continue to start at 9:00am and the register will close at 9:05am. Please note that we will no longer be ringing the bell at 9:00am. Once children are in the building, we will be responsible for them, however the day will formally start at 9 o'clock.

I know that many parents use this time to pass on messages to teachers however senior leaders will be happy to pass on any messages you might have at this time. You will, of course, be able to see your class teachers at the end of each day when the children are collected.

We have made these changes to improve the start of the day, hopefully leading to a safer and calmer entry to the building. This will also ensure a swift start to the day so that children are ready for lessons at 9:00am. We also understand that parents travelling to Leeds will be able to make an earlier train without having to rush.

If you have any further comments or suggestions, please do not hesitate to get in touch in September.

Reports Guidance

Having spoken to a few parents regarding the new report format, I would like to provide some additional guidance to clarify the descriptions used in the reports. You can find that information here: https://www.saltaireprimaryschool.co.uk/website/report_information/418220

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday. I'd like to thank all of the staff, governors, children, parents and carers for their support since I took up my post in January. Enjoy the next six weeks with your children and I hope you all get the rest and relaxation you deserve.

See you in September.
